Warmth: Questions and Answers

How do you use Cornbags?
Put your cornbag into the microwave for about two minutes for easy heating. Depending on the cornbag's size and the microwave's power, you'd best start with one minute and step up the heating time until the cornbag reaches a comfortable heat. The heated cornbag should attain a very slight scent similar to freshly baked bread. Never overheat your cornbag!
Without a microwave, you can heat cornbags in ovens, on hot radiators, or on the top of woodburning stoves. With all of these you will have to watch the temperature carefully. You can turn off the oven at 100 degrees Celsius / 210 degrees Fahrenheit and leave the cornbag inside for 10-15 minutes until it has stored enough heat.

Why do we use Cornbags?
There are many advantages of cornbags over hot water bottles: You are less likely to burn yourself, the cornbag heats up faster, and the warmth will be less intense and keeps for a longer time.

Why Corn as a Filling?
Dried corn provides an ideal combination of fast heating, long lasting warmth and a pleasant scent. In Europe, most heat cushions are filled with cherry pits. Depending on the size of the cushion, these pits do not keep the warmth as long as corn. Some people use jasmine or basmati rice for the pleasant smell. Rice, however, has a squeaky feel when the hot rice grains are rubbing against each other. Rice is also bound to break after some time while properly dried corn lasts for many years without any change.
